How to record League of Legends games on Windows
Updated May 16, 2026
The best recording setup is the one you can forget about during the match. RiftRec is built to record your own games automatically, then keep the completed VOD ready for review.
1. Set up recording
Install RiftRec, open the desktop app, and choose the folder where you want completed games to be saved. Keep the folder on a drive with enough free space, especially if you record long sessions at 1080p or higher.
- Use automatic recording when you want every game captured.
- Use a consistent recording folder so you can find VODs later.
- Delete old test recordings before a long session if disk space is low.
2. Pick practical settings
For most players, 1080p, 60 FPS, and hardware H.264 encoding is enough. H.264 is the safest compatibility choice for local review, browser playback, and sharing.
| Goal | Recommended setting |
|---|---|
| Smooth review | 60 FPS |
| Good compatibility | H.264 |
| Smaller files | Use upload compression or lower bitrate |
| Simple uploads | Use one complete match file per review |
3. Review after the game
After the match, open the recording and look for moments that changed the game. Start with deaths, bad recalls, missed objective setup, and fights where the team plan was unclear.
If you want another person to watch with you, upload the VOD to RiftRec Review and start a private room.
4. Keep it policy-safe
Use RiftRec as a recording and review tool for your own completed games. RiftRec is not live gameplay assistance and does not provide game-client modification, account services, or replacement systems for Riot features.
