Terms of Service

Plain English summary Use RiftRec to record and review your League of Legends games with friends and coaches. Don't upload illegal content, don't try to break things, and don't impersonate other people. We can remove content and ban accounts that break these rules. You own your videos but give us permission to host them.

1. Who we are

RiftRec ("we", "us", "our") is a service operated from Finland that lets users record, store, and review League of Legends gameplay. The service consists of a Windows desktop application, a web review platform at review.riftrec.app, and supporting infrastructure.

2. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account, downloading our software, or using our services in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

You must be at least 13 years old to use RiftRec. If you're between 13 and 18 (or your local age of majority), you confirm that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Your account

Registration

You must provide a valid email address and choose a password of at least 6 characters.
You're responsible for keeping your password secure. We recommend using a password manager.
You may not share your account credentials with others.
You're responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
One person may not register multiple accounts to evade bans, quotas, or moderation.

Display name and profile

Display names must be 2–32 characters, English alphabet only (a–z, A–Z, 0–9, space, dot, underscore, dash).
You may not impersonate other users, public figures, or RiftRec staff.
You may not use offensive, harassing, or misleading display names.
We reserve the right to rename or remove inappropriate display names without notice.

Account termination

You may delete your account at any time through the settings page. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, applicable law, or pose a risk to other users or our infrastructure.

4. What you can upload

RiftRec is intended for League of Legends gameplay recordings and related coaching content. You may upload:

Your own game recordings (MP4, WebM, MKV, MOV, AVI, max 1.8 GB per file)
Voice review clips you record using our in-browser recording feature
Profile information (display name, bio, avatar URL)
Comments, bookmarks, and messages between users

Storage quota

Each account has a storage quota (currently 150 GB). When you exceed your quota, your oldest unpinned clips are automatically deleted to make room for new uploads. Pinned clips are never auto-deleted (max 20 pins per user).

5. What you cannot upload (Prohibited Content)

You may not upload, share, or distribute any content that:

Is illegal in Finland or the European Union, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), terrorism content, incitement to violence, or stolen data.
Infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights. You must own or have permission to upload the gameplay footage.
Contains malware, viruses, exploits, or harmful code.
Promotes hatred or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or nationality.
Sexually explicit, gratuitously violent, or deeply disturbing content not relevant to League of Legends gameplay.
Personal information of others without their consent (doxxing).
Spam, advertising, or commercial promotion not authorized by us.
Designed to harass, threaten, or stalk other users.
Misrepresents Riot Games' League of Legends in violation of their terms of service.

Zero tolerance for CSAM We use automated scanning and human review to detect child sexual abuse material. Any account found uploading CSAM will be immediately and permanently banned, the content preserved as evidence, and the matter reported to NCMEC, IWF, and Finnish law enforcement (KRP). There is no appeal process for CSAM violations.

6. Content moderation and reporting

We act on reports of prohibited content within 48 hours of receiving notice. To report content, use the in-app Report button or email abuse@riftrec.app with:

The URL or clip ID of the content
The reason it violates these Terms
Your contact information (so we can follow up)

We may, at our sole discretion, remove content, suspend accounts, or take other actions to address violations. We're not obligated to actively monitor content but reserve the right to do so.

Notice and Action (EU Digital Services Act)

As required by the EU Digital Services Act, we provide a clear mechanism to notify us of illegal content. Reports are reviewed by a human, and you'll receive an acknowledgment within 24 hours and a decision within 48 hours.

7. Content ownership and license

You retain ownership of everything you upload. By uploading content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:

Store, host, and back up your content on our servers
Stream your content to users you authorize (friends, coaches, session participants)
Generate thumbnails, transcode, and process your content for delivery
Display your content within the RiftRec interface

This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we're required by law to retain it (e.g., for ongoing legal proceedings). After deletion, content may persist in backups for up to 30 days.

8. Subscription and payment

RiftRec may offer paid subscriptions in the future. If you subscribe:

Payments are processed by Paddle (paddle.com), a third-party payment processor.
Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled.
You can cancel anytime; access continues until the end of your billing period.
No refunds for partial periods unless required by Finnish consumer law.
VAT is included for EU customers as required.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) without our written permission
Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble our software
Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our systems without authorization
Interfere with or disrupt our services or networks
Use our service for any commercial purpose without authorization
Resell or sublicense access to our service
Circumvent rate limits, storage quotas, or other restrictions
Use our service to host content unrelated to League of Legends or coaching

10. Privacy

We collect and process personal data as described in our Privacy Policy. By using RiftRec, you consent to that processing.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

RiftRec is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We don't guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We're not responsible for data loss, though we make reasonable efforts to maintain backups.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Finnish law, our total liability for any claim arising from your use of RiftRec is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €100, whichever is greater. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

This limitation does not apply to: damages caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct, statutory consumer rights that cannot be waived under Finnish law, or personal injury or death.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from: your use of the service, your content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use RiftRec after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

15. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be resolved by the District Court of Helsinki (Helsingin käräjäoikeus), unless mandatory consumer protection law gives you the right to bring the case in your local court.

16. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
